Welcome to the PNP News! It feels like only three days ago that we gathered here to talk about the latest PNP games. If I keep posting this regularly, I might be mistaken for a professional. This is post has some really cool games in it that I am really excited about.
If you're into wargames or games with very unique themes, you'll find a lot to enjoy here. As usual, there are several active contests.
Be sure to check out the discussion thread for my potential as well. I haven't checked in awhile, but I was amazed to see today that the microbadge for this blog has blasted past 300 owners! We're currently sitting at 324! Thank you very much to everyone who has purchased it. I really appreciate it. If you would like the badge but don't have the 8 geekgold, let me know and I'll donate the geekgold to you. Don't forget to follow my new Twitter account:.
Let's get right to it! PNP Design Contests Upcoming Contests (maybe) Two of my favorite hobbies are PNP games (obviously) and tinkering with simple electronics. I had the idea to combine the two into a PNP Design Contest where the games had some sort of electrical component. Think of games like,,.
At the moment, I'm trying to gauge interest from others in the PNP community. This contest could require purchasing some electronic hardware such as LEDs, wires, and microcontrollers to participate. We are just talking about it right now.
There are no dates set at this point and the contest may not actually happen if there isn't enough interest. If this is something that you might enjoy, please come to the discussion thread and share your thoughts. Current Contests hosted by Dustin Culbertson. This is the second annual contest dedicated to 54 cards games.
The challenge here is to design a game with no other components other than the cards. There are geekgold prizes, cash prizes, and even the chance at getting published! Entry Deadline: Mar 31, 2019 Voting Deadline: June 30, 2019 This is the fourth annual contest dedicated to games that are contained entirely on 9 cards and a few common gaming items. This is my first year hosting the contest.
The contest dates were recently extended (due to an illness and other personal delays on my end) and is now accepting entries until March 31, 2019. This contest is always a lot of fun and the design limitations generate some really innovative ideas. Also, thanks to the small size, all of the games are really easy to print and assemble. Entry Deadline: March 31, 2019 Voting Deadline: May 12, 2019 An additional note on this contest: ( on BGG) has invited his students studying game design at to participate in the contest. There are tons of new and unique games entered in the contest this year from these first-time designers. Come check them out!
This is the seventh annual contest focused on two-player games. If you primarily play games with a significant other, this is the contest for you. This contest always generates some really great stuff. The contest is no longer accepting new entries so it is time to play all the awesome games already there. Voting Deadline: April 30, 2019 I believe this is the first ever BGG contest dedicated to. (There have been other contests but not hosted on BGG.) There are already several great games entered so try them out or enter some of your own!
Entry Deadline: 01 June 2019 Voting Closes: 15 June 2019 New Games designed by Storm Over Dublin is a 2 player game. This is an area-impulse wargame covering the 1916 Easter Rising and the 1922 Battle of Dublin - both part of the Irish War of Independence. One player controls Irish rebels and the other controls the British government. The Irish must capture key government buildings and the British must regain control of the city, block by block.
This game looks terrific in the photos! This is a large PNP project with 3 counter sheets and a nine page map.
The free PNP files for the full game are available. Image credit: Philip Jelley with design and art by Viva La Revolution! Is a 1 to 2 player game.
This is an abstract wargame set in a fictional South American country. One player controls the government and the other rebels seeking to do a coup. If the rebels manage to take control, the players switch roles for the next game. The PNP file is 19 pages and contain all the boards, maps, and counters needed to play. This draws inspiration from some excellent other games so I'm very excited about it!
