Till Monday, 1.46 lakh citizens have been successful in paying taxes online and BBMP mopped Rs 97.3 crores. Since property tax collection process began from April 1, the technical glitches on the portal of Palike have made the process of payment a worrisome experience for citizens across.

While the website has been crashing every now and then, many citizens have been unable to find whether they received the five percent rebate for filing tax before April 30, most have not been able to finish the process at one go. A BBMP official said, “Since April 22, the Malleswaram ward office has lost internet connection. Operators are unable to keep up with the demand of challans. If the payments are not made by June, the operators and tax inspectors have to visit properties and collect taxes. We have resorted to noting down people’s contact details and asking them to return to the office once the challans are printed out, temporarily. Despite the number of complaints and calls made to the BSNL office, this issue has remained unsolved.
